Partara, 2001

SYNTHETIC POLYMER ON LINEN, 47.2 x 31.4"

The Country depicted in this painting is Partara, an area south of Balgo Hills, in the Great Sandy Desert, Western Australia. The shapes and contours of this Country is annunciated through the roundels, which depict the big rock holes, while the rest of the painting shows the Tali, or sand dunes which dominate the area. Partara is a Tkukurrpa (Dreamtime) site where both men and women stopped, with this being a site on a men's initiation journey.
