Known for her discerning eye coupled with a relentless curiosity, Miriam offers clients informed and candid advice on acquiring works of art, focusing existing collections and initiation or furthering philanthropic activities. Miriam works with a range of clients, from novice buyers to committed collectors, making the process stimulating and rewarding for all involved.

Miriam works to works hand-in-hand with clients on:

  • Acquisitions of works of art by Australian First Nations artists, including acting as buyer’s agent for private sales and auctions with access to a trusted and esteemed network of vendors.
  • Developing a collection rationale and strategy with accompanying research analysis on prospective acquisitions.
  • Advising clients on the refocusing of existing collections, including deaccessioning works of art thrugh charitable gifts and sale.

Appraisals and valuations prepared by Pollon Director, Miriam Grundy, comply with both American and Australian appraisal standards. Appraisals for Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander works of art, objects and visual material can be prepared for the following purposes:

Appraisals prepared for works of art located in the United States comply with the highest standards in the field, known as Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). All appraisals adhere to the strict code of professionalism and ethics set out by USPAP.

Appraisals prepared for works of art located in Australia comply with the ethical and professional standards set out by the Australian Government's Cultural Gifts Program.

ACAA members must possess a high standard of expertise in the visual arts and adhere to strict ethical standards and code of professional conduct set out by the organization.

Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice

Appraisals prepared by Miriam comply with the USPAP, written by the appraisal Standards Board of the Appraisal Foundation in Washington, D.C. The Appraisal Foundation is a congressionally sanctioned, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the advancement of professional appraisers and users of appraisal services to ensure public trust in the work performed by appraisers. The Internal Revenue Services (IRS) will only accept estate and donation appraisals prepared by a USPAP qualified appraiser, as defined in IRS publication 561.

Australian Government Cultural Gifts Program

Miriam is approved to value Indigenous Australian Art for the Australian Government’s Cultural Gifts Program. The Cultural Gifts Program is administered by the Department of Communications and the Arts and valuations must comply with the strict standards as set out by the Department and the Australian Taxation Office.
